The Department of Geography is located in Clippinger Laboratories. Our teaching and research facilities include the following:

Information Technology Laboratory

A state of the art Information Technology Laboratory supporting research and instruction in Geographic Information Systems, Automated Mapping, Digital Image Processing, and Applied Artificial Intelligence. Our current software menu includes ArcGIS, ArcView, ENVI, PCI, IDRISI, Corel DRAW, along with specialized systems for expert system and neural network development.

Scalia Laboratory for Atmospheric Analysis

The Scalia Laboratory for Atmospheric Analysis supports teaching and research in climatology, meteorology and forecasting. This lab features Internet weather information systems and supports a 24 hour weather hotline, (740) 593-1717.

OhioView Laboratory for Applied Geomatics Research

The OhioView Laboratory for Applied Geomatics Research located in room 118 Morton Hall, supports applied research in remote sensing and special studies using GIS. This networked facility maintains a suite of research workstations and servers together with hardware and software tools for advanced image processing, GIS analysis and mapping. This facility is the department link to the Ohio View Remote Sensing Consortium.

Laboratory for Quantitative Analysis

A state of the art Laboratory for Quantitative Analysis supporting research and teaching in Statistical Methods, Spatial Analysis, and Modeling using a variety of spread sheet and statisitical analysis packages.

Ohio University Cartographic Center (OUCC)

The Ohio University Cartographic Center (OUCC), located in Clippinger Hall 104, is a cartographic production lab for advanced research projects in geovisualization and map design. The OUCC serves clients on campus and nationally with map production support for books, journal articles, posters, and dynamic (interactive and animated) cartography, utilizing graphic design (Illustrator, Photoshop, and Flash) and mapping (ArcGIS, Natural Scene Designer, and World Construction Set) software. The center's phone number is (740) 593-1150.

Carl Ross Geomorphology Research Laboratory

The Carl Ross Geomorphology Research Laboratory, located on The Ridges, became operational in 1996. This facility is used for research regarding landforms and their component sediments. It contains tools, instruments, and equipment for grain size analysis, field measurements, mapping, and air photo interpretation.

Long Term Social and Ecological Research Room

The Long Term Social and Ecological Research Room was created in 2000 and recently moved to Morton Hall 425.
